Martha Jean Herring Ferguson, age 84, died peaceably, Thursday, June 18, 2015, In her home in Huntsville, Alabama.

She is affectionately known as Jeannie, or Mamma Jean, to her friends and family in Simpson County and in Huntsville.

Jeannie was the youngest of seven children born to Benjamin Pinkney Herring and Martha Jane Murray. She follows in death her parents and six siblings; Dorothea Middleton, Mildred Bonnie, Norman, Armand, Ira L, and Truitt. The Herring children attended Old Hickory Elementary And Magee High Schools, and were also life time members of Pine Grove Baptist Church, In Magee, Mississippi. Jeannie was a graduate of Magee High School, class of 1952.
She is survived by her husband, George (married 61 years), her brother Jerald Herring, Her five children, Jennean Gordy, Bonnie Lee Ferguson, George Michael Ferguson (Debi), Mary Elizabeth Tripp (Timothy), and Laura Sheilette Miller (Tim). She has nine grandchildren, Darlene Cutler (Aaron), Anthony Gordy (Sabrina), Brad Gordy, Paula Andrews, Ryan Tripp (Hannah), Kimberly Tripp, Corey Tripp, Charles Vick (Killa), and Crystal Goodman. She has six great grandchildren, Jenna, Bryce, Emma, Katie, John, and Allison.
A visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 22, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 23, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Magee, Mississippi
