Martha “Jane” Little Magee passed on from this earthly life on December 4, 2016 at the age of 89. Jane, the daughter of the late Sylvester Van Little and Lillie Mable Kennedy Little, was born on November 15, 1927 in Mize, MS. She attended schools in Smith and Simpson counties and was a graduate of Magee High School.
She met her sweetheart, the late Robert S. Magee, and the two were married on February 20, 1946. They made a home together in Magee, MS., where she took pride in faithfully serving her community as a cosmetologist. For many years, she owned and operated her own beauty shop; after her “retirement,” she continued to bless patients at Hillcrest Nursing Home by using her gift of cosmetology as a ministry to help those in need. In her free time, one may find her digging in the garden, cooking in her kitchen, teaching Sunday school, or socializing with the Red Hatters group.
She touched the lives of many as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and dear friend. Most importantly, she served as a “spiritual mother” for countless others. Her love for the Lord was evident in all that she did, and her love for others was a direct reflection of her strong faith.
Her legacy will forever be cherished by those who have survived her, including her five children, Robert Van “Bob” Magee (Brenda), Anne Magee Amason, Mona Magee Williamson (Larry), David Michael Magee (Connie), Mark Walker Magee (Gayle); twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In Heaven, she will join those who have preceded her in death, including her husband, Robert S. Magee; father, Sylvester Van Little; mother, Lillie Mable Kennedy Little; brother, Billy C. Little; sisters, Van Lillian Little Williamson and Velma Little Duck; son-in-law, Pastor Gene W. Amason; and first-born grandchild, Alisha Anne Amason.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm at Colonial Chapel in Magee. A celebration service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11:00am at Church Alive in Magee. The burial will immediately follow at Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery in Magee. Those officiating will be her grandson Pastor Gene Amason, II and Reverend Havard McDonald.
