Mardi Gras fun, fun, and more fun!!!

Didn’t we just celebrate Christmas and ring in 2018 New Years?  It is hard to believe that Mardi Gras time is here.  I have never been a big celebrator of Mardi Gras mainly because I didn’t know much about it.  Well if you don’t know just ask someone or do like I did and google it!!

Mardi Gras, also called Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday, in English, refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (The Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday.  Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.

So did I see “CELEBRATIONS and EATING” in the definition and what about adding in some fun!!!    Then count me in…

Especially when you hear about a friend being selected as a Mardi Gras Maid, that means a little road trip to see her “having a ball” at a Mardi Gras Ball in Biloxi.

I am just saying, I’m not a fan of wearing a “monkey suit” better known as a suit and tie but it is fun to dress up in your best for special occasions!!!

DeeDee McPhail Hooks, daughter of Diane McPhail and the late Joe McPhail, was the Maid of France at the Krewe of Les Belle Fleurs’ 2018 15th Annual Masquerade Ball held Saturday night in Biloxi.  Dee Dee was escorted by her long time friend, Greg Caplan.

After a storm on Saturday night and then another rain storm minutes before the parade was to begin, we were afraid we would have to view DeeDee and Greg in the parade from the comfort of our vehicle.  The rain stopped and the clouds held the rain water till the parade was complete…thank goodness.  These Mardi Gras parade floats are a big deal.  You can see from the pictures below of some of the over 60 floats that made up the D’Iberville Mardi Gras parade.

Happy Mardi Gras… and maybe Magee will start a Mardi Gras parade and a Mardi Gras Ball next year.  Now is the time to begin planning…I know the perfect person to head it up… the “Maid of France… of Magee”!!
