Simpson County is preparing to celebrate its bicentennial this year, and throughout the county, towns and communities are planning a wide range of events to highlight the county’s history.
Celebrations kickoff in Magee in April, and the city has a host of special events planned April 13-27, 2024.
The city’s celebrations begin with the Bicentennial Fair on April 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Bicentennial Parade at 10 a.m.
Sunday, April 14, 2024, will feature “Sunday at the San,” a day of food, fun, and lots of history at the Sanatorium (Boswell) from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Five-dollar barbeque lunches will be available.
There will be a prayer breakfast at the old Magee Elementary gym on April 16 at 7:00 a.m.
An art show will be held at Ural Everett Park on April 18 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
On April 21, there will be a tour of homes and a presentation of personalities from the past from 2-4 p.m.
A tour of the old cemetery in Old Magee will be held on April 24 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Talk Around the Table with Walt Grayson at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
The Threads of Time Fashion Show will be held at 7:00 p.m. on April 25 at the Community House.
The city’s celebrations will come to a close at the Main Street Finale on April 27 from 6-9 p.m.
