On Thursday, May 1st, at approximately 12:53 p.m., Magee Police Dispatch Center received a call for service from the Central Dialysis Center in Magee. The caller reported that a male patient was not breathing. Officers responded immediately and arrived on scene within approximately two minutes.
Upon entering the facility, officers observed a team of dedicated nurses and staff members surrounding the patient. One nurse was actively performing chest compressions while others rotated in to assist. The patient had no pulse at the time. It truly warmed my heart to witness the determination and teamwork displayed by the staff in their efforts to save a life.
Shortly after, the Covington County Ambulance Service arrived with a mechanical chest compression device. After more than 35 minutes of relentless effort, the medical team was able to restore a pulse. The patient was then transported to Magee General and later airlifted for further treatment.
As Chief, I believe in giving credit where it is due. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the staff of Central Dialysis and the Covington County Ambulance Service for their professionalism, compassion, and refusal to give up. This is a true example of what dedication to human life looks like.
From all of us at the Magee Police Department, thank you!
