Magee Man Arrested on Felony Drug Charges Following Foot Pursuit
A local man has been arrested by Magee Police on felony drug charges following a foot pursuit Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2015.
According to local authorities, Magee Police Officer Landon Ates, Officer William Douglas, and Lt. Joey Womack were attempting to serve a warrant in the Goodwater Community when police observed a man, identified as Damion Walker,of Magee, a convicted felon, who also was wanted by police for outstanding warrants and old fines.
Aware of Walker’s warrants, Officer Ates attempted to approach Walker when he began to flee on foot, resisting arrest. Officer Ates subsequently gave chase, at which time he observed Walker attempting to discard a large plastic bag, throwing the bag onto the roof of a nearby shed as he attempted to evade police, officials reported.
After several verbal commands to stop, Officer Ates tasered the fleeing man in order to cease the pursuit, at which point officers were able to detain Walker.
Officer Ates then recovered the plastic bag that was later determined to contain 18 grams of methamphetamine.
Walker was then transported to Magee city jail, where he was booked on the charges of felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, a disorderly conduct warrant, and old fines in the amount of $5,436.00.
At his initial appearance, Walker appeared before the honorable Judge Eugene Knight, and was given a bond, set in the amount of $25,000.
