Magee Police Department has reportedly seized over 4 and one half pounds of marijuana, a handgun, over $1,500.00 in cash, and a 2007 GMC Denali following a traffic stop on May 4th, 2015 conducted by K-9 Officer Landon Ates, and his K-9 partner, Jade.
According a press release issued by Police Chief Randy Crawford, Officer Ates stopped a the driver for a seat belt violation yesterday afternoon, when the driver, identified as Fredrick Womack, 41, of Jackson, was asked to provide proof of insurance.
As Womack opened the passenger-side door and glove-box of the SUV, Officer Ates detected a strong odor of fresh marijuana, coming from the vehicle. Officer Ates then searched the SUV, finding approximately 4.8 pounds of alleged marijuana (total package weight) in a small cooler-like box, and a glock handgun. Womack was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, while in Possession of a Firearm.
Chief Crawford also reported Womack appeared at his initial appearance before Magee Municipal Court Judge Eugene Knight on May 5th, 2015, at which time Womack received a bond in the amount of $10,000 on the felony charge.
Chief Crawford commended the work of K-9 Officer Landon Ates and his partner K-9 Jade praising Officer Ates for his “work ethic and diligence in our ongoing fight against crime, and aggressiveness in the war on drugs.” Chief Crawford further stated, “Magee Police Department will continue to exhaust all means to make Magee a safer city.”

On May 4, 2015 at 1604 hours, K9 Officer Landon Ates accompanied by his K9 partner Jade stopped a GMC Denali for no seat belt. The driver was identified as Fredrick Womack. Officer Ates asked Womack for an insurance card and Fredrick opened the passenger side door and glove box. Officer Ates smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officer Ates searched the vehicle and found on the back seat a small cooler like box that contained approximately 4.8 pounds of alleged marijuana (total package weight). Officer Ates placed Fredrick Womack under arrest. Officer Ates found a small Glock handgun inside the vehicle and also $1,666 in cash which was seized. Fredrick was charged with Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute marijuana while in possession of a firearm. The 2007 GMC and the gun were seized. On May 5, 2015, Fredrick appeared before Magee Municipal Court Judge Eugene Knight for his initial appearance and his bond was set at $10,000 on the felony charge.
