Magee Elementary School Hosts Music Program Honoring Veterans
In honor of Veterans Day, Magee Elementary School hosted a Veterans Day program, featuring performances by its fifth-grade students and show choir.
Held on Nov. 10, the students gave two performances for their peers during the morning and for community members and local veterans during the afternoon.
The program began with the entrance of the students, carrying American flags, followed by the singing of “You’re A Grand Old Flag.” The students sang an array of patriotic songs, such as “Star Spangled Banner,” “Thank a Vet”, and “God Bless the U.S.A.” After their entrance, the Posting of the Colors was carried out by two members of the Magee National Guard. There was also a special presentation given by Simpson County community member Jimmy Clyde, who played “Taps” on the trumpet.
Simpson County School District’s Board of Education member Stanley Bugler, who is also a veteran, praised the school for putting on such an outstanding program.
“It was a true tribute to veterans,” said Bulger. “I couldn’t be prouder of an organization than Magee Elementary School and the work that they put into it. I want to commend them for that.”
After the program, the veterans in attendance were invited to a reception in the school library in their honor.
