MAGEE CHOSEN AS 2019 GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN-UP KICK OFF SITE.

Keep Magee Beautiful, the Magee Chamber of Commerce and the City of Magee are joining forces for The Great McNair Springs Clean-up!

After years of neglect the park that was once a beautiful, peaceful retreat will be getting a much-needed spring cleaning on Saturday, February 9th. Many local churches have teamed up with the organizers and will be bringing their youth groups as a part of Disciple Now weekend to aid in the effort. The event will start around 12 pm with a workforce approximately 200 people. There are plans for trash and debris clean-up, limb removal, fresh coats of paint and other cosmetic improvements. Keep Magee Beautiful contracted with Jason Williams from Attention to Detail to begin prep work at the site which should be completed this week. Alderman Lane Steele has also assisted with tree and limb removal.

This workday, though, is just the beginning. Every year Keep America Beautiful launches their Great American Clean-up with a kickoff event in each state. Each individual affiliate in the state is asked to submit a proposal outlining why the event should be held in their community. The winning proposal and event site is selected by the Keep Mississippi Beautiful board of directors. Members of Keep Magee Beautiful, the Chamber and the City all recognized what an opportunity this would be, if selected, for a revival of sorts to the once thriving park. Local junior, Cooper Carrico also took interest in the site from the start and has played an integral role in the project’s planning.

We are proud to announce that Keep Magee Beautiful was chosen as the wining affiliate! The benefits of being chosen for this event include grant funds to further improve the site, state and national media attention and sponsorship opportunities in addition to drawing positive attention to our wonderful City and Community. We are thrilled to be able to take part in the exciting event and look forward to involving the community in the effort.

Our dreams for this event are to help return the park to its original state and restore a long-departed sense of safety so that people in the community can enjoy visiting and using the park again. The City of Magee has pledged to maintain the park on an ongoing basis but, we are asking for your help with this project in way of donations of materials or monetary gifts. We also are in need of many tools for the event including rakes, flat and spade shovels, hedge trimmers, wheelbarrows. If you would like to make a donation or loan us any of these items you may do so by dropping them off at the Chamber of Commerce between 9am-4pm Mon-Thurs labeled with your name and phone number. These tools will be returned to the Chamber following the event and will be available for pick up.

We encourage you to ride out to McNair Springs soon and see the progress already being made and stay tuned for an amazing transformation!
