Magee Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet Thursday, April 29, 2021. This marks the 65th banquet.

Magee’s Miss Hospitality Chloe White and Simpson County’s Distinguish Young Woman Megan Maddox greeted guest as they entered the banquet.

Buddy Mullins provided music and entertainment before and during the meal.

Chamber President Julian Harper welcomed all guest. Rev. Darnell Moffett opened the evening in prayer. Former Mayor Jimmy Clyde played the National Anthem and Jackson Jones led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Tables were beautiful decorated in an array of table top arrangements. Trustmark National Bank was the winner of the table scape.

Dinner was served by the students from Deuteronomy 6.7 Homeschool and Simpson County Academy.

Mayor Dale Berry gave a reflection on the previous year and how the City of Magee faired during the worst pandemic of mankind. The Mayor noted we are scheduled for another record year in sales tax collections, as well as receiving taxes on internet sales. The city has had obstacles this year with not only pandemic but ice storms and large amount of rainfall hindering work projects.

Ashely Jones introduced Magee Miss Hospitality Chloe White and Distinguished Young Woman Megan Maddox. Both ladies assisted with presentations of awards.

Chamber Member Patrice Boykin presented Star Student and Teacher awards for Simpson County Academy and Magee High School. Magee High School recipients were Star    Student – Zach Suber and Star Teacher – Kristy Thurman. Start Student from Simpson County Academy was Jacob Johns and Star Teacher was Chris Murphy.

Dr. Bo Huffman recognized Dick Wendt as the Outstanding Citizen of Magee. Dr. Huffman noted the volunteering, coaching, teaching, and overall character Wendy represents.

Charlie Bob Prince recognized Donna McLean as The Spirit of Magee recipient. Prince had the room laughing as he told stories of McLean and their traveling days. Prince told of the excellent teacher McLean was at Magee High School and the Accolades she acquired over the years.

Diane McPail recognized Tommy Meador, Lane Steele, and Bob Everett as the newest Hall of Fame Winners for the City of Magee. Each individual has given so much to the City of Magee of their time, volunteering and serving.

Chamber Member Pam Wallace presented Magee General Hospital as the Business of the Year. Magee General has overcome one of the hardest years! Not only was the hospital recovering from bankruptcy, but suffered the overwhelming issues effected with the Pandemic. They were the true heroes for 2020-2021.

President Julian Harper passed the gavel to incoming President Lee Maddox. Maddox spoke of the future insight of the chamber with plans to assist the new Senior Citizen Building and other projects happening around the city. Maddox brought attention to the newest Keep Magee Beautiful committee and the hard work that has been done to help Magee become a beautiful town.

Newly appointed District Attorney Chris Heniss presented a special recognition award to Scott Hubbard and Clint Walker both from Magee as being commissioned as Brigadier Generals in the Army National Guard.

Buddy Mullins ended the evening with God Bless America.

Magee Chamber of Commerce 2020-2021 Officers are Julian Harper – President, Lee Maddox – Vice Presdient, Pam Wallace – Treasurer, and Doris Adcox – Executive Director. Board of Directors Retiring 2022-2021 are Christian Carrico, Rusty Slover, Skip Russell, and Julian Harper. 2019-2022 Board of Directors are Patrice Boykin, Leman Cockrell, Ruth Ellington, Lee Maddox, and Suzy Thames. 2020-20223 Board of Directors are Angela Maddox, Dylan Sanford and Pam Wallace. 2021-2024 Board of Directors are Clint Ashley, Nancy Brown, Tiffany Kinslow, and Debbie Walker.
