The Magee Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 for a regularly scheduled meeting.
The agenda was approved.
Mayor Mark Grubbs advised the public about possible inclement weather for the weekend of January 23-25, encouraging citizens to stay off the roads should the area experience severe winter weather.
Grubbs also gave an update on work at the city park and asked residents to stay off the new sod for the time being.
Alderman Allyson Berch asked about replacing older street lights with LED lights, and Grubbs said he would reach out to Entergy about it.
The minutes were approved.
Alderman Suzie Bourn made a motion to declare an amnesty month for March 2026. During the month of March, she proposed, warrant fees will be waived, and no arrests for outstanding warranted will be made when citizens come in to City Hall to pay fines. The board approved the motion.
The Claims Docket was approved.

Joey Boyles, The Drain Man, and Odell Gray appeared before the board to discuss issues with dumping in the city. Boyles addressed concerns about the time limits that may be imposed upon dumping and encouraged the board to let him and his colleagues continue to dump in the city as they currently do.
The Board of Aldermen approved the airport hay cutting agreement as amended by the city attorney.
Bourn announced a preview day on January 31, 2026, from 8-11 a.m. and encouraged anyone interested in bidding for the contract to come and walk the property that day.

Forrest Dungan of Clearpoint Engineers updated the board on possible erosion grants.

Public Works Administrator Tim Bray updated the board on the state of a pump that “controls all the sewer from the railroad tracks to this side…from one end of town to the other.”
“We can’t let that thing go down on us,” Bray said.
Bray also told the board his crews were preparing for winter weather.

Police Chief Denis Borges asked for approval to apply for a grant that would allow the department to purchase new guns. The grant is a 50% match, but Borges said the city’s 50% could be funded through the sale of seized weapons. The board approved application for the grant.
The aldermen approved hiring Hunter May part-time by the fire department, as well as the purchase of five new sets of turn our gear for the department. The cost of the gear is approximately $18,000.

Brett Duncan of Prince CPA discussed a budget comparison for the first 1/3 of the budget year, telling the board that the general fund is “$20,000 ahead of budget” and that he sees no major issues in the general fund or the water fund. He did make a point to explain that the airport is not currently over budget though there had been an overage of $18,000 last month due to the payment of a bill that had been accruing for 14 months.
Duncan explained that, when it comes to sales tax, the trend is online purchasing.

Finally, Duncan asked the board to approve publication of an advertisement to purchase a garbage truck, explaining that the opportunity to purchase a truck with 60,000 miles for basically half the regular price had arisen. The board approved publication.
