Mayor Dale Berry announced at the June 21, 2022 Magee Board of Alderman meeting that the next board meeting will be Thursday, July 6, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.
Garbage pickup for the Independence weekend will not run on Monday, July 4, 2002. City Hall will be closed in observance of the holiday. Monday’s garbage route will run Tuesday, July 5th. Tuesday’s route will run Wednesday July 6th. Routes will run as scheduled the remainder of the week.
A firework show will take place at the Magee Sportsplex Monday, July 4th, 2022 starting at dusk. The fireworks will be ignited from the high school baseball field.
Anyone wanting to purchase a shed or storage unit for their property are required to purchase a city permit. Please contact City Hall before purchasing a unit to obtain the legal requirements.
A retirement reception will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Civic Center in Magee honoring David Dunn and Wanda Williams. The reception will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Entergy is replacing the lights on Highway 49 with LED lights. Be cautious if you approach area with workers present.
Ms.Thomas Buckley met before the board to ask for an alley closure in the Everett subdivision for Black 12. The board granted the closure.
The board hired Jacqulyn Sullivan as a custodian for the Civic Center. The center will be cleaned after each event and weekly. The contractor labor cost is $75.00. The hire will be complete when the contract is completed and signed.
The board approved to declare the property located at the old police department as surplus for industrial and commercial use. Approval was then granted to rent the property to Stanley Graves for a plumbing business. The lease will take effect July 1, 2022.
Park Director Jimmy Zilla met before the board with issues concerning the air conditioning at one of the buildings at the sports complex. The board approved to accept the low bid of a split system at the high school baseball field and the Michael Dunn building at a cost of $9200.00
The girls state tournament will be held in Magee this weekend. Approximately 46 teams will complete over the weekend. The girls 6,8,10, and 12 year old will play Saturday and Sunday and the 14 year olds will play Sunday.
The boys state tournament teams will be on the road traveling south to Ocean Springs, D’Iberville, and Pascagoula this weekend.
Police Chief Shane Little asked the board to consider ordering new uniforms for the police department. An example of the uniforms for available for the board to view.
Little presented the board with a letter of resignation from Alan Martin that was approved. Little asked that Blake Welborn be moved from full-time to part-time officer.
Little advised the board that Walmart has partnered with the police station and wants to volunteer time to help make improvements to the station.
Philip Magee advised Rally’s was ready to install asphalt in the coming days. Zaxby’s is working on their plans. Pizza Hut will begin work after Rally’s is completed and opened.
