A discussion allowing sky diving at Magee Airport was discussed. The board asked to table the decision until more information could be obtained.

A discussion was entered into about a possible interlocal agreement with the county for an animal shelter. The main concern was the space to house the animals. The city does not have enough space to house a large number of animals. The decision was not to proceed with housing assistance to the county at this time.

Magee reportedly had 51 teams that completed in baseball tournaments over the weekend. Restaurants were packed and revenue hopefully was up.

Dusty Boorne addressed the board about bringing sky diving back to Magee. The board voted to table the decision until next meeting giving board members time to research the needs, wants, and liability involved.

Representatives from the fire department displayed a brand new set of Hurst Edraulic extrication tools, “Jaws of Life” that had been purchased. The equipment was purchased with donations and at no cost to the tax payers. The firefighters wanted to donate the equipment to the City of Magee. These tools will be a great asset for wrecks, forcible entry, and training! For story and pictures click here

Charlie Valadie met before the board to discuss findings from the MS State Rating Bureau concerning the E911 equipment located in the police department. The equipment is out of date and does not have the capability to see who is calling and an address. The equipment the city had 6 years ago was digital and up to date, but due to funding cuts, equipment was pulled from the City of Magee and Mendenhall at the request from Sheriff Kenneth Lewis and county. The equipment was removed and the cities had to revert back to analog systems are as referred to “Stone Age Equipment.” The absence of this equipment could affect the fire rating the city is working toward. The city is trying hard to become a class 5. To bring equipment up to date, the cost would run approximately $26,000. Mayor Berry asked for help from the local candidates running for office. Valadie mentioned Magee PD was ranked third in the state, and the Fire Department was with-in the top 25% in the state. Sadly the city does not have up to date E 911 equipment. Valadie stated Magee receives approximately 4500 calls annually for 911.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned until nest scheduled meeting March 2, 2019.
