Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, January 7, 2020 for their regular scheduled meeting.
Mayor Dale Berry advised the Lagoon grant money from the State Legislative has been received.
Mayor Berry advised he is working with city employees to start a street sweeping schedule in the coming weeks. All streets will be swept. Attention is also being given to Franklin Drive and 11th Ave. Employees will work to clean up trash located on the right away of these streets. Utility crews have been working and replacing lines within the city. During this time 3 or 4 water lines have been cut. Most recently is a line located on Kennedy Drive. The city hopes to have the line replaced and back working early Wednesday morning.
Mayor Berry thanked Cam Crace for the excellent job he did replacing flower beds at the welcome to Magee signs located at the north and south entrance to the city. The beautification was part of his senior project.
Mayor Berry provided the board a sample work schedule for the city employees for the year. Employees will be delegated certain days of the week to assigned areas of the city for maintenance and cleanup. Mayor Berry reminded everyone about the ribbon cutting for Burger King Wednesday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m.
An update on the Senior citizen building located at the old YMCA location was provided. The flooring is all that needs to be finished. The committee is hoping to have a Valentines projected grand opening in February. Details will be provided closer to that time.
City Attorney Bruce Smith was asked to work on an ordinance against Hookah Bars, Vibe Bars and Cigar Bars.
The board approved for City Clerk Lane Hosey to attend a continuing Education CMCCA Spring Academy Class in Hattiesburg, MS March 4th – 6th.
The Mayor advised the board the resurfacing of main street will take place memorial day weekend. This date is due to the asphalt has to be milled down and then resurfaced. The long weekend will help to not hinder weekday business traffic.
New registration fee will be enforced for youth to play softball and baseball starting 2020 Spring Season. The board approved to increase registration fees for baseball and softball. The new cost will be $65.00 per player. The cost is due to normal inflation, cost of required background check, required coaching clinic, and cost of umpires, and balls.
With nor further business meeting was recessed until Tuesday, January 21, 2020
