After more than four decades of compassionate care, Magee’s own Lynda Finstad is hanging up her stethoscope. Friends, family, colleagues, and former patients will gather to celebrate her remarkable career on Sunday, August 17, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. in the Parlor of First Baptist Church, Magee.
Lynda’s nursing journey began in 1982 when she graduated from the Hinds-Gilfoy School of Nursing at Baptist as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Ten years later, she returned to Hinds to earn her Registered Nurse credentials—completing two full years of study at a time when “bridge” programs were not yet available.
For all 42 years, Lynda served at Magee General Hospital, building a reputation for skill, dedication, and deep compassion. She worked closely with physicians who trusted her judgment and relied on her keen assessments.
“Nursing was more than a job—it was a calling,” Lynda shared. “There’s nothing like seeing your patients and their families. We are so fortunate to have a hospital in our town.”
Her husband, Blair, insisted that such a milestone deserved a celebration, and the community wholeheartedly agreed. The event is open to the public, offering a chance to thank a nurse who gave her heart to healing and her loyalty to both her patients and her hometown.
