Lt. Governor Hosemann Reports Almost $3.4M On Hand
Jackson, Miss.—Republican Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann moves into the last 90 days of his primary campaign for re-election with almost $3.4 million in his coffer.
“We are grateful for the support we have received,” said Hosemann, elected to a first term as Lt. Governor in 2019 with more than 60 percent of the vote. “Mississippi voters want solutions, not just talk, and we have a significant record of running government like a business. The next three months will be devoted to spreading the message about our record and priorities over the next four years.”
Donations for this campaign finance period, which began January 1 and ended April 30, 2023, totaled $192,836.41.
Hosemann announced his reelection campaign for Lieutenant Governor in January with a three-day, 10-stop tour at businesses and other community venues in and around Jackson, the Gulf Coast, Hattiesburg, Meridian, Columbus, Tupelo, DeSoto County, Greenwood, Natchez, and Brookhaven. Since then, he has continued to travel the state to debrief the 2023 Legislative Session, visit Mississippi communities, and discuss priorities for the next four years with constituents.
In his first term, Hosemann led the charge to:
- Reduce the state’s debt by more than $500 million and reduce the size of state government;
- Increase penalties for violent crime and bolster support for law enforcement;
- Cut taxes on working Mississippians by $525 million;
- Provide a $6,000 raise, on average, for teachers, making salaries competitive with neighboring states;
- Protect the integrity of elections by banning ballot harvesting and cleaning up the voter rolls;
- Streamline workforce development efforts; and
- Invest significant resources in roads, bridges, ports, water and sewer, broadband, and other infrastructure.
Hosemann also brought transparency to the Mississippi Senate, which now webcasts all committee work and floor debate.
As a steadfast conservative who spent most of his career as a businessman in the private sector, Hosemann previously served as Secretary of State. In this role, he overhauled the state’s business laws, raised more than $1 billion for public schools through 16th Section land reform, and implemented voter ID to secure Mississippi’s elections.
Raised in Warren County, Mississippi, Hosemann holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Notre Dame, a law degree from Ole Miss, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University. He is a former partner of Jackson-based law firm Phelps Dunbar, LLP. Hosemann also served his country in the United States Army Reserve.
Delbert and Lynn Hosemann, married for more than 52 years, have three children and eight grandchildren.
The Republican Primary in Mississippi is August 8. The General Election is November 7.
