What a privilege it was for Mississippi Nurse Association District 11 nurses to celebrate National Nurse’s week with these special retired RN’s in our area. These six ladies below are retired from nursing but they are still nurses at heart. Their names and good character are well known, beloved, and established throughout our community. They were the honored guests of MNA District 11 May meeting. Some of these ladies graduated nursing school as early as 1947. A couple nurse rode to nursing school together and later worked together for many years (Pat and Grace). Work experience ranges from DON’s in Home Health and local hospitals, Medical and surgical nursing, Public health nursing, labor and delivery, Home health Care, and even EMT training. Many stories of the good old days were shared such as making rounds with doctors, and riding in the ambulance. Betty Wade recalls working with polio patients in iron lungs and teetering hospital beds in the 1950’s. No matter what experience these nurses have had, past or present, they all agreed that it takes a special person to be a nurse.
