The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) is a highly acclaimed nonprofit middle school located in Southeast Atlanta. The Academy has received both national and international recognition for its success n educating students with academic rigor, passion, and creativity balanced by a strict code of discipline. The 5-8th grade students represent various socio-economic and academic background and communities from across the Atlanta metro region.
RCA does not only educate children…but provides an education for the educators! Teachers from all over the world travel to the RCA to observe the teachings of Ron Clark.
Several administrators from Magee Middle School attended the academy last year and came back on fire! During the 2015-2016 school year, six teachers were chosen to attend the prestigious academy.
The district reimburses the teachers who attend the academy…but these teachers must “up front” the money…and that is not always easy!
These six teachers are on fire for RCA. Teachers expressed their reaction to the experience.
By listing to the video, one can feel the electricity in the room and among the educators as they shared their RCA experience.
My take was “teaching out of the box”…additional ways to reach our students giving them a well rounded education that consist not only of school work but life management skills. RCA supports a different method of discipline…does not allow any students to be on medication for behavior…believes in manners…teaches children the importance of actually looking at someone when they speak or when spoken too. Just listening to these teachers got me excited! As with any system there are things that work better for one area than another…but I feel if even one “clue” to help education is discovered the entire conference is a positive. (The deal is…they learned a bunch of clues!).
Coach Jackson expressed how great it was to attend an extended learning program that actually allowed one to see first hand how a program worked…and not just be told how something should operate.
Take time to listen to the video…see and feel the excitement of these 6 middle school teachers. There is change in the air!
