Local Goodwater Community matriarch Annie Mae Langston dies in house fire

Mrs. Annie Mae Langston 92, who has lived her life in the Goodwater Community Johnson Drive North East, perished in a house fire Thursday night, October 17, 2024.  Considered as one of the leading citizens of her community, her death  struck a blow to family and friends. Mrs. Annie Mae spent every day on her front porch visiting with neighbors.

Magee Fire Department, Magee Police Department, Simpson County Sheriff’s Department, and Covington County Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

The Mississippi State Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

David Craft, Fire Chief, explained her body was discovered in the rear of the house in her bedroom.  She was still on the bed and apparently died from smoke inhalation. “I do not feel Mrs. Langston suffered,” stated the Chief.

    Mrs. Annie Mae was one of my mother ( Mrs. Helen Young) closest friend. My mother always talked about her. She was such a sweet and kind lady. Condolences to the family. RIP Mrs. Annie Mae.
