Sunday, I saw the most beautiful red flower at Diane McPhail’s home. The flower looked like velvet!
I commented to Diane how much I loved the flower. Diane explained that the flower actually came from her mother, who has been dead for years. The flower has 8 blooms which Diane says stands for her 8 grandchildren. Mamaw Ellen is still reaching down and bringing a smile to her daughter’s face through a flower.
I am blessed with many living memories. Because I live in my grandparents home (which will be 100 years old next year—party time!), I have plants that remind me of my family and friends. When my son Larkin died, Zan Hudson gave me a sweet olive tree to be planted at the cemetery. Each time I pull up to Larkin’s plot, I think of Zan and I think of Larkin. Zan was Larkin’s Cub Scout leader and she taught him to tie a tie; therefore, he always tied the ties for Dickey and Breck! Living memories…a tree…a friend…a son.
I have a flower bed in my yard where I put flowers (bulbs) that people give me…each bulb has a name…the name of the person who gave me the plant! A living memory…thinking of people who touch my life.
What a blessing Diane’s mother was to everyone she knew….and her sweet memory lives on in the color red.
Treasure your memories …and leave a memory for your family and friends.
