Running isn’t just a sport for Lily Overby — it’s a passion, a purpose, and a way of life. The Simpson Academy senior has poured her heart into the sport, earning recognition that places her among the best in the nation.

Gatorade recently announced that Lily Overby is the 2024–2025 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Cross Country Player of the Year — a first for Simpson County Academy! What an incredible accomplishment for this talented young woman and for our community.

Lily has already made her mark as a three-time Cross Country State Champion, and now she carries the distinction of being the top female runner in Mississippi. Her dedication, discipline, and love for the sport have set her apart.

“I owe so much to my coach, Dr. Angel Overstreet,” Lily shared. “She set the bar high and believed in me. Our team is truly like a family — we support and encourage one another every step of the way.”

Lily is the daughter of Paul and Sarah Overby of Magee, and she continues to make her hometown proud.

Take a few minutes to listen to her interview — you’ll see why she’s so special! Lily is remarkable, and I, for one, can’t wait to watch her keep on running with the dogs! 🏃‍♀️🐾

Lily is a great runner and a great role model for the younger runners on her team. I am so excited that she is going to State!
