The Scriptural passage for today is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:15: “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.” The various Christian churches of Asia Minor were established by the apostles and followers of Christ who often visited and wrote to those congregations, teaching and encouraging their social conduct. They were to be a separate people and were to set an example for others, especially the new converts. It was imperative that love and kindness be major tools utilized in dealing with others. Repaying wrong for wrong was the way of the world, not the way of Christians. Let us, likewise, be mindful of the importance of love and kindness in our dealings with others. The two cost nothing; yet, they can melt the hardest of hearts.
