Larry Morris Mitchell, MD of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center; he was 84 years old, born in Magee, Mississippi on January 27, 1935.
Dr. Mitchell was a very accomplished man; an avid outdoorsman, golfer, skilled Finger Picker guitar player, and animal lover (especially horses, dogs, ducks, and turkeys).
He was a two-time Grand National Field Trial Champion; the first in 1978 with Rex’s Cherokee Jake.
His family describes him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a devout Christian.
Preceded in death by his son, Hunter Mitchell, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cathey Mitchell; son Jay Mitchell (Katie); daughter, Reed Mitchell; son, Morris Mitchell; son, Gary Mitchell (Kelsey); grandchildren, Taylor, Ali, Julia, Emma, Eleanor, Marian, and Charlotte; and brother, John Mac Mitchell.
A Celebration of Life will be held this weekend in Franklin.
