After graduating from Florence High School, Lane enlisted in the United States Army. While serving, he was stationed in Northern England, where he met the love of his life, his English Rose, Barbara Sutcliffe, at a New Year’s Eve party on the military base. Lane worked for Mosler Banking Company for many years before starting his own company, AVS. He became well known to bankers across the state who knew he could be trusted with only a handshake. In 2011, Lane retired and moved with Barbara to Sumrall, MS to be closer to their grandchildren, Leighton and Sam.
Lane, who was known as “Junior” by his relatives and “Ida” by his grandchildren, was a true family man. He loved, supported, and cared for all his family. He enjoyed golfing with his nephew (more like his brother), Johnny, hosting family reunions, and all things related to his loving wife, children, and dear grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Roland; son, Matthew Roland (Courtney); daughter, Leigh Vestal (Alan); daughter-in-law, Heather Lott Roland; sister, Myrtle Cooksey; grandchildren, Laighton Roland, and Samuel Roland.
