So often, we just go about our daily lives and think nothing of what someone has endured. We may meet someone in the grocery store, see them at a ballgame, go to church with them…and never know the journey that person has walked or is walking…. this is the case with Leslie Perry.
Before last week, I don’t believe I knew Leslie Perry (personally that is)…but after reading her story…watching her video…I have a new appreciation for Leslie and the many like her who suffer with scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a lateral (toward the side) curvature in the normally straight vertical line of the spine. When viewed from the side, the spine should show a mild roundness in the upper back and shows a degree of swayback (inward curvature) in the lower back. When a person with a normal spine is viewed from the front or back, the spine appears to be straight. When a person with scoliosis is viewed from the front or back, the spine appears to be curved.
Here is Leslie Perry’s story….
I have lived in Simpson County for over 20 years. I had Scoliosis as a teen and had surgery in 1973. In 2005 I started to lean forward and was eventually diagnosed with Flatback Syndrome in 2011. After 2 failed spine surgeries done in Jackson I then decided to seek a Scoliosis specialist out of state. I chose Dr Matthew Geck in Austin,Texas. My revision surgery was on 2/17/14. It lasted over 13 hours! I am now walking straight and normal after almost 10 years! I have a video on YouTube about my journey and its on Dr Geck’s Facebook page Scoliosis Texas!
June is National Scoliosis Awareness Month! Thanks so much!
