Johnnie Tyree Womack, 86 of Magee, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at his home. He was born on Saturday, August 28, 1937, in Simpson County, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in New Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Dr. Buddy Keyes will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Mr. Johnnie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Magee, Mississippi. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, cousin, and friend.
He was a graduate of Magee High School in Magee, Mississippi. He then served our country in the Mississippi National Guard. He began his career in law enforcement in 1960. He worked at Magee Police Department for three years. He then continued his law enforcement career as a Mississippi Highway Patrol Officer. He retired after twenty-five years as a Ranking Captain. He then returned to Magee Police Department and served as the Police Chief for three years.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and most of all spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Layton Womack; son, Jed Womack; father, Gaston Womack; and mother, Gladys May Womack.
Survivors include his two sons, Jay Womack (Janet) of Texarkana, TX and Joey Womack of Magee, MS; four grandchildren, Tracy Womack, Lisa Gunter (Andrew), Justin Womack and Jordan Womack; three great-grandchildren; cousin, Tara Olmstead; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jay Womack, Joey Womack, Walt Womack, Carson Bristow, Layton Bristow, and Todd Olmstead.
