On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, a Simpson County jury found John Trent Robinson guilty of Trafficking Methamphetamine.
Robinson was arrested and charged as a result of a traffic stop made by Simpson County Deputy Garrett Gray. While searching for Robinson’s vehicle, Deputy Gray discovered a large amount of methamphetamine hidden in the air vents of the center console of Robinson’s vehicle. Because of his attention to detail, Deputy Gray noticed that the center console had been altered so that the back panel could be removed. Thanks to his diligence, a large amount of methamphetamine was prevented from being distributed in Simpson County.
Robinson elected not to be present for his trial, however, he was quickly located hiding in a motel in Philadelphia, Mississippi, shortly after the jury returned its verdict.
On Thursday, Circuit Judge Stan Sorey sentenced Robinson to 40 years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He will have to serve every day of his sentence. Assistant District Attorney Chris Purdum was responsible for prosecuting the case and did an excellent job presenting the evidence to the jury. I want to thank Sheriff Paul Mullins and his department for their continued hard work getting drug dealers off the streets.
