John Barney Burnham, Jr., 78, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Thursday, February 12, 1942, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Puckett Cemetery in Puckett, Mississippi. Bro. Tommy May will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401
Mr. Burnham was a member of Puckett Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved working on antique Volkswagens, playing with tractors, playing the trombone, and finding projects around his home. Over the years, he selflessly supported his family through a wide variety of pursuits such as track meets, football and softball games, band competitions, Boy Scouts, piano recitals, camping trips, beauty pageants, etc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Barney Burnham, Sr. and Frankie Evelyn Burnham of Puckett.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Shirley Bounds Burnham of Brandon; three sons, John L. Burnham Sr. and wife, Peggy, of Brandon, James Gregory Burnham and wife, Anna, of Brandon, and Jeffrey D. Burnham of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Melinda Burnham Myrick and husband, Joe, of Pearl; nine grandchildren, Lynley Burnham, John L. Burnham, Jr. (Jake), Erin Myrick, Oren Myrick, Matthew Burnham, Katelyn Burnham, Asa Burnham, Danielle Jordan, and Drew Jordan; five great-grandchildren, Heidi Cockrell, Madalyn Cockrell, J.W. Burnham, Gabe Myrick, and Marklyn Stewart; one sister, Betty Ratcliff and husband, Joel of Brandon; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Burnham, Greg Burnham, Jeff Burnham, Matthew Burnham, Oren Myrick, Jake Burnham, Asa Burnham, and Joe Myrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Gabe Myrick and J.W. Burnham.
