(September 4, 1973 – December 30, 2021)

Jason Gilbert “Big Red” Purvis, Sr., 48 of Raleigh, Mississippi passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born Tuesday, September 04, 1973, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 04, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home at 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 04, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Merchant Cemetery in Raleigh, Mississippi. Brother Randy Ivy will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Jason “Big Red” was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, sitting around talking about the old days with friends.  He loved being outdoors, fishing, and camping, hunting, and listening to his Walker dogs running deer.  He loved to dance, sing Karaoke and trail riding with his mules and wagons.  He also had an extended family (Mt. Olive Wagon Train/Okatoma Riding Club) that he loved riding with.  He was friends with many and will be remembered and loved by all.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Gene Daley; grandparents, Dr. Wendell and Jo Gilbert, Burl and Flora Purvis, and Papa Pete Brown.

Survivors include his loving wife, Michelle Smith Purvis of Collins, MS; sons, Jason Purvis, Jr. of Raleigh, MS and Aaron Purvis (Katelin) of Raleigh, MS; daughter, Bethany Purvis of Raleigh, MS; step-son, Cody Caves of Bogue Chitto, MS; grandchildren, Leah Neal of Brookhaven, MS and Addison Caves of Brookhaven, MS; father, Jim Purvis (Janet) of Magee, MS; mother, Angelia Daley of Bassfield, MS; brothers, Josh Purvis of Bassfield, MS, Jeremy Purvis (Anna) of Sumrall, MS, Joe Purvis (Kari) of Magee, MS, and Richard Bowen of Biloxi; numerous step-siblings; and a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Purvis, Jason Purvis, Cody Caves, Jeremy Purvis, Joe Purvis, Scottie Martin, David Martin, and Craig Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Purvis, Richard Bowen, and Drayton Purvis.
