Janice Elaine Hill Covert went to Heaven to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 28, 2023, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Lakeview Place Assisted Living in Magee, Mississippi. Prior to moving to Magee in 2021, Janice lived in Columbus, Mississippi.

Janice was born at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on October 29, 1954. She graduated from Central High School, Jackson, Mississippi, and attended Hinds Community College, where she earned an associate’s degree in secretarial science.

Janice accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age at Hillcrest Baptist Church. She had a true love of Southern Gospel music and enjoyed listening to it often. She loved people, had a giving heart, and was always ready for a good laugh. She loved giving compliments to strangers just to see them smile. Janice also loved making jewelry – and received such a blessing from giving it away to others. She enjoyed her dogs, and over the past couple of months, was able to spend some time with them while visiting with her husband at their current home in Magee. Another of Janice’s loves was talking about and spending time with her daughter, her grandchildren, and her newest, her great granddaughter, Anne Crosby.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Edna and John Hill. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Steve Covert. Additionally, she is survived by her daughter, Faith Bennett Kennedy (Brian); four grandchildren: Dylan Kennedy (Hayden), Mason Kennedy, Benjamin Kennedy, and John Caden Kennedy; one great grandchild: Anne Crosby Kennedy; and one sister, Linda Hill Ward (David).

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 2:00 P.M., First Baptist Church, Magee. Janice’s final gift to others is her anatomical remains for study to University Medical Center.

The family is grateful for the loving care of Janice at Lakeview Place Assisted Living, Simpson General Hospital, and University of Mississippi Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the charity of your choice or perform an act of kindness in Janice’s honor.
