James Edward Cockrell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away in his home June 29, 2022 at the age of 70. James was born on December 27, 1951 to James Kenneth and Mary Aileene Cockrell in Magee, MS. Throughout his life, James worked in different occupations including heavy machine operator, the oilfield industry, and Right of Way supervisor. James was active in his church, New Hope Baptist Church, of Mount Olive, MS. He served as an usher to the church and served on several committees. After retiring, James enjoyed spending time on his front porch with his five grandchildren and great grandson. He was married to his wife just 4 days shy of fifty-two years. The two were lovingly called MawMaw and PawPaw Crock by their most prized possessions.
James was preceded in death by his parents James K. and Ailenne Everett Cockrell and son John Goodin.
James is survived by his wife, Deborah G. O’Neil Cockrell; his sons, James B. Cockrell (Staci), Justin C.Cockrell (Jessica), Jeremy Q. Cockrell (Marcie); grandchildren Colby Cockrell (Carley), Keton Cockrell, Mallory Cockrell, Carter Cockrell, Travis Cockrell; great-grandchild Brayden Cockrell; sister Joyce Entrekin and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church Sunday, July 3, 2022. visitation will be from 10:00-1:00 with services to immediately follow lead by Jimmy Arender. Pallbearers will include Colby Cockrell, Keton Cockrell, Carter Cockrell, Travis Cockrell, Greg Boykin and Weston Frye.
