Senator Hyde-Smith with Joseph Voykin and Keegan Figueroa.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today congratulated Joseph Voykin of Flowood (left), a Jackson Preparatory School senior who was named one of the nation’s Top 10 youth volunteers as part of the Prudential Spirit of Community National Awards program. Voykin, 17, is being honored for raising over $600,000 to build an accessible baseball field for children with disabilities.
The Prudential program honors high school and middle school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level. The largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service in the nation, it has recognized 125,000 students for their selfless contributions to their communities.
Also honored this week was 14-year-old Keegan Figueroa of Mooreville, who led a community service project that included collecting more than 30,000 pounds of basic necessities and delivering them to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
