Hundreds of prospective students will attend Mississippi College classes, learn about Clinton campus organizations and see an MC-Florida Tech football game.
Those are a few of the activities planned for the university’s Fall Preview Day September 23. Following a 1 p.m. Saturday check-in at Anderson Hall, students will hear remarks from President Lee Royce.
Other key administrators on hand include: Jim Turcotte, vice president for enrollment services & dean of students, and Ron Howard, vice president for academic affairs. Admissions counselors Tori Langworthy and Cameron Treadwell will welcome the visitors.
In early September, there were 271 students signed up for Fall Preview Day. When family members are included, the total rises to 737 guests. Most of the students attend high schools across the Southeast.
Enrolling more than 5,100 students, MC remains America’s second oldest Baptist college. The university was founded in 1826 as Hampstead Academy. It is Mississippi’s oldest institution of higher learning.
Students will tour the Clinton campus, including a look at the university’s cadaver lab in the Medical Sciences Building. They will check out college residence halls, stop by the Leland Speed Library and visit Alumni Gym to learn about academic programs.
Parents won’t be ignored. Parents are invited to Anderson Hall at 3 p.m. to discover how scholarships and financial aid make MC one of the region’s most affordable private institutions.
Tailgating on the Quad and campus tours begin at 4:30 p.m. Visitors can cheer on Choctaws football players as they walk to Robinson-Hale Stadium to play Gulf South Conference rival Florida Tech.
The MC game with Florida Tech Panthers begins at 7 p.m. The Panthers of Melbourne, Florida opened the 2017 football season with a 44-0 victory against Virginia University of Lynchburg on September 2. MC lost a heartbreaker to Clark Atlanta in overtime 32-29 on August 31.
Football won’t be the only sport on the Preview Day agenda.
Students interested in Mississippi College’s equestrian, bass fishing, clay shooting and archery teams are invited to Providence Hill Farm. The open house at the scenic 2,000-acre farm off Carsley Road is from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
