House Bill 1
Representative Noah Sanford announced Monday by Facebook that the following monies would be allotted for our area from House Bill 1:
- Covington County – $520,000
- Simpson County – $603,000
- Jeff Davis County – $477,000
- City of Collins – $134,000
- Town of Mt. Olive – $32,000
- Town of Seminary – $24,000
- City of Magee – $195,000
- Town of Bassfield – $22,000
- City of Prentiss – $50,000
According to Simpson County Administrator, Rhuel Dickerson, the monies will be phased into the infrastructure of the county roads and bridges at a rate of 25% per year over the next four years until the full amount is attained; that means 25% the next year, 50% the next, 75% the next and finally 100% in the fourth year. The county and municipal governments will not have all of this money available immediately.
Dickerson states,”these new funds will very likely have additional rules and restrictions that may limit our usage.” Rhuel went on to say, “our local governments certainly appreciate the assistance given from the State Legislature,”
