Rapheal Monteze White, was taken into custody Tuesday evening after leading officers on a high speed chase that ended in a collision with a police vehicle.
On Tuesday, February 4th, at approximately 6:11 p.m., an officer on patrol encountered Rapheal Monteze White’s vehicle traveling in the wrong lane, nearly causing a head on collision. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, White refused to pull over, accelerating to high speeds and disregarding multiple stop signs as he fled through city streets.
Due to the immediate danger White posed to the public, officers were unable to terminate the pursuit. Based on his reckless driving and failure to stop, officers had reason to believe White was possibly impaired and was an imminent danger to the citizens. Officers continued the pursuit until they could successfully disable his vehicle using stop sticks. At no point did officers place innocent lives at risk. White alone created the danger when he made the decision to flee instead of complying with law enforcement.
During the chase, White was driving head on towards a backup unit on Pinola Drive and struck the patrol vehicle, causing significant damage while an officer was inside. The impact tore off the driver’s side front tire of White’s vehicle. After the crash, White exited on the passenger side and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. Officers observed signs of impairment, and a search of his vehicle incident to arrest revealed open container, a six pack of beer, and felony amount of crystal meth.
Covington’s Emergency medical personnel cleared White of injuries, while the officer involved in the collision was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. White was booked at the Magee Police Department on the following charges:
1. Aggravated Assault – Police Officer (Felony)
2. Driving Under the Influence – 1st Offense
3. Fleeing/Eluding an Officer (Felony)
4. Malicious Mischief (Felony)
5. Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony)
6. Disregard for Traffic Control Device
7. Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road
8. No Driver’s License
9. No Proof of Liability Insurance
10. Reckless Driving
White’s decision to drink and drive, along with the suspected use of narcotics, directly led to his arrest. The Magee Police Department commends the officers for their swift response and is grateful that no innocent lives were lost due to White’s reckless actions. A warrant was obtained for white’s blood. Once obtained His blood was later sent to the crime lab for evidentiary purposes.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
