Much confusion existed in the county concerning voting places. The redistricting was adopted on May 2, 2012, but many were unaware of the change. One particular family was told one spouse voted in one district and the other voted in another district although they lived in the same house! Circuit Clerk Steve Womack addressed the issue live on MageeNews.com during the vote tallies. He explained that when redistricting occurred that an agency from the Secretary of State’s office handled the procedure and to balance counts apparently households were split.
New voter cards will be mailed to county residents. Womack assured the public that he will get to the bottom of the situation.
1,969 people voted. We have 12,089 registered voters. 16.29% of the population of Simpson County voted. The election cost in excess of $24,000.
