Have you noticed anything different with the First Baptist Church Magee’s sign?   The 44 year old sign had a makeover.  The brick sign at the corner of 1st Street NW and Simpson Hwy 149 has been updated with new lettering and new lights!!  Drive by and take a look… the sign looks great.  Remember to drive by at night and see it lit up!!

The sign was erected in 1974.  Joe W. McPhail and wife, Diane donated the money for the sign in memory of Mrs. Bessie Ann Green.  Diane states that Joe saved the money he earned as a Magee Alderman and paid for the sign.

Joe chose Mrs. Green because she was their neighbor and became like a sister to him and Diane.  According to Diane, Mrs. Green was the first cancer patient her family became very close to knowing and love.  The  McPhail’s youngest daughter of three, Angel Ann, was named after their dear friend, Mrs. Bessie Ann.
