Happenings at the Board of Aldermen Meeting 11/15/2022

Lawana Thompson appeared before the board requesting a street light near her house.  Mayor Berry is to contact Entergy.

Susan Walker came before the board requesting clarification on two issues :  Garbage pick up and City text.  Mrs. Walker explained that in years past, a city wide text was sent to citizens who requested the alert system.  The number to sign up for text on the City of Magee website is an incorrect number.  Mayor Berry assured the public the IT person, Austin Brown, will address this issue.  Mrs. Walker also questioned the garbage pick up schedule during holidays as well as the public not being alerted to the schedule.  The Mayor again agreed to address the situation and post the information on the website, Facebook page, and by text when in operation.

Deputy Fire Marshal Shane Steele, who also handles property maintenance,  informed the Board the area on 2nd Avenue across from the Presbyterian Church has seen progress cleaning the area.  The home owner informed Mr. Steele his plans are to put a wooden fence around the back yard in the spring. Steele reported the old Murry Tire  area on 149 is scheduled for debris to be removed by Thursday.  The tire removed comes under the direction of DEQ.  The property on 541 near the Millcreek bridge should be cleaned by Thanksgiving. Discussion on the Jerry Brandon property next to the pawn shop is in progress.

The Alderman passed an ordinance to block Main Street for the City of Magee Christmas parade on Thursday, December 1st.  The parade begins at 6.

Steve Womack presented the water loss report for 10/01/2022 to 10/31/2022.  Steve mentioned that with the situation, the city will need to continue working toward new meters.  (Loss: 168,987)

Police Chief Shane Little presented Vance Hamilton for employment with the department.  The request was approved.  The Chief also informed the board the new police uniforms should arrive sometimes this week. 

Tim Bray, city superintendent, introduced 4 men who were applying for work with the city.  The matter was tabled.

Alderman Sue Honea reported tennis tournaments would begin soon at the City Park.  Light bulbs need replacing, wraps around the courts need repairing, and additional cleaning is a must.  Parks and Rec director Jimmy Zilla has begun work on this project.

A workshop for the Board of Aldermen is scheduled for MondayNovember 21, 2022 at 5 PM at City Hall.

Applications for Zoning Director and public works are still available at City Hall. 

Reminder:  City Hall will be closed for Thanksgiving

The next scheduled Board of Aldermen meeting is December 6, 2022.
