Governor Phil Bryant has appointed a board to oversee the creation of the new lottery. The Board is comprised of four men and one woman, with each having to be approved by the State Senate next session. The Board will select a CEO and obtain a loan to get started up. The lottery has long been opposed in our state, with it being in illegal under our state constitution until 1992. The Casino and Church lobbying groups have combined in the past to stop such a lottery, but fell short when the legislature passed legislation on the lottery at the Special Session in August. The lottery could be up and running by late 2019.
