Four Mississippi College graduates, who are all close friends, will see their works featured at a Gore Gallery exhibition.

Art patrons are invited to see the diverse display of watercolor paintings along with a series of drawings. Imagery ranges from bold cityscapes to beautiful landscapes and impressive portraits. The show on the Clinton campus runs through September 23.

Dubbed “The Clinton Four,” the Gore Gallery show spotlights the works of longtime Clinton residents like Wyatt Waters and Ron Lindsey. The exhibit also features the works of Mississippi artists such as Memphis-born Sam Beibers and Paul Fayard, a New Orleans native.

The public is invited to meet the four talented Clintonians at an opening reception on Thursday September 8. The event goes from 6-8 p.m. at the Gore Gallery.

Art lovers are in for a treat, says Randy Jolly, director of the Gore Gallery. “What a start to the fall season with four of the most impressive and loved artists in Mississippi – sixty-five pieces that delight the senses and stimulate the way we view the world.”

Mississippi College art professor Albert Smathers pours on the praises. “The subjects of the show are as varied as the colors and individual styles and techniques of each of the artists exhibited.”

The nice mix of art stretches from a plate of oysters on the half shell to scenes of retro architecture in Jackson’s Fondren district to scenes of the Mississippi College campus. Art pieces depicting historic homes in Vicksburg are featured, too.

Waters is well-known to Mississippians as the award-winning artist who works out of his studio along the Brick Streets in Olde Towne Clinton.

Beibers serves as exhibits coordinator at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson. Fayard has worked as an art educator and mental health counselor. A Meridian native, Lindsey is a member of the Craftman’s Guild of Mississippi. He teaches at the Mississippi State Hospital. Lindsey crafted courtroom drawings for the movie “A Time to Kill” based on John Grisham’s best-selling book.

Mississippi College art professor Benjamin Ivey hopes MC students, faculty, staff, alumni and others in metro Jackson visit the exhibit. “This is masterful work by some of the most creative artists in our area. I am most impressed by the body of work and variety of styles each artist brings.”

The Gore Gallery at 199 Monroe Street is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m.
