The word of the day is smile! That’s right, sometimes in the hustle and bustle of the holidays…trying to get everything worked out for everyone…we forget to smile. One of my friends stopped by Monday with a distraught look of “how am I going to get this done?” Well most of us feel the same way; therefore, I decided we all need to smile as we face whatever these next few days bring. Not only do we face the preparations of the season, but “hurts of the heart” can be their worse during this time of the year. My prayer is for everyone to feel a peace in their heart…a desire to live and love…and memories that bring happiness.
Be careful!!! So many of us feel as if we are living in a dangerous time…and we are! Monday afternoon, one of my friends was driving to her house…she lives just outside of Magee. When she turned off the highway, she realized someone was following her…and continued to follow her down her long drive way. When she exited her car, the guy said, “I thought you were my girlfriend…she drives a car just like that!” My friend set the guy straight and headed into her house. Please be aware of your surroundings. Who knows what any of us would do…I can say what I think I would do…but until put into the situation who knows! I guess we are all become gun carrying folks!
Monday I had a chance to visit with 2 former Magee ladies: Katherine McCarley and Valerie Mangum Adams. Katherine and her late husband owned Home Appliance in Magee for years. She lived down the street from me almost all my life until she moved to the coast to live with her daughter. There are so many things about Katherine that I admire…but one thing that stands out…is that she loved me enough to prepare and teach me every Sunday in Sunday School as the only student! Not many “girls” my age attend SS…but that did not stop Katherine. Katherine’s actions gave me confidence in knowing I was loved. We never know what legacy we leave as we pass through someone’s life. Katherine is now 87 years old and looks absolutely wonderful! I miss her!
Valerie Mangum (she is Jimmy Mangum’s sister) Adams …and a classmate of mine from our years at Magee School …had the best re-connecting visit. As I talked with Valerie I thought of the years we spent together as children…Valerie is still beautiful…she has such a kind spirit…what a blessing I received in reconnecting with her during this special time of the year.
Diane McPhail and her girls are preparing for their annual Black Friday outing! The crew gets matching shirts and hits the road and aisles! I’m starting my prayers for them now!
Remember there is no garbage collection for the City of Magee Thanksgiving Day…I’ve got to check about Friday…can’t remember!
Have a great day…..remember to smile!
