Gladys Sherrill Smith Haynes

Gladys Sherrill Smith Haynes, 83 of Magee, Mississippi passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Wesley Merit Health Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was born Saturday, August 26, 1939, in Laurel, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Magee City Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Bro. Jim Taylor will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Ms. Sherrill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Magee, Mississippi. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a lifelong member of the Girl Scout Troop #6 of Laurel, Mississippi.
She was graduate of George S. Gardiner High School in Laurel, MS. She then attended Jones County Junior College and MS Southern (USM) where she obtained her degree in education. She taught second grade for Long Beach School System for twenty-five years.
After retirement, she and her husband Aubrey enjoyed traveling with the MS Allegros Chapter #95 Motor Home Club. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for fifty-four years. Sherrill was always known for having a camera and taking photos. They moved to Magee in 1997 to be near her daughter and family. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Aubrey Haynes; father, Clyde Smith; mother, Zona Turrittin Smith; and brother, Kent Smith.
Survivors include her one daughter, Tracey Haynes Crawford (Randy) of Magee, MS; two granddaughters, Laurel Crawford Gardner (Joshua) of Mendenhall, MS and Christa Crawford McGrew (Chris) of Houma, LA; one great grandchild, Eleanor Gardner of Mendenhall, MS; one brother, Steve Smith (Beverly) of San Angelo, TX; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Josh Gardner, Chris McGrew, Ryan Little, Chase Little, Donald Fortenberry, and James Smith.
