Hello, I am Gary Kevin Meadows. I am announcing my candidacy for Alderman At Large for the City of Magee. I have decided to run due to the vacancy that will exist because the incumbent is not seeking re-election for that post. I would like to continue the trend of positive leadership and direction for our City, as well as bring a new voice with fresh ideas for future growth, to the boardroom. I humbly ask for your support toward this goal.

I am a life time resident of Magee. A Christian and Youth Pastor for Magee First Pentecostal Church, where my father is the long time Pastor. Although I am a career firefighter for the City of Jackson, I am honored to be a volunteer firefighter for Magee. I have served in this community’s fire department for 8 years. I am the proud son of Gary and Brenda Meadows as well as a proud husband & father. I am married to Michelle Lea Meadows and we have a 2 year old daughter – Briar Waverly Meadows.

Over the years I’ve seen Magee prosper because of the great leadership, decisions, and service provided. This has been accomplished through efforts of the Mayor, Board, our community workers, and it’s public safety servants. All this has been accomplished with sound fiscal management. As one having an insiders view from our fire department, it has allowed me not only to help those in need, but watch our organization achieve great strides toward improving our public protection rating. This has been done through a balance of emergency response and better fire prevention through dedicated applications of the building, fire, life safety codes, and community education. The police department continues to provide us with a higher degree of protection through their excellent service. They have recently attained recognition of Mississippi’s 6th safest city. The Parks and Recreation Department provides us with facilities for our children that are 2nd to none. We are models for other communities to follow. Zoning and Planning has provided us with a platform for good orderly growth in the commercial/business settings as well as other building projects. These are all good trends to continue and I will support them to the fullest.

Future projects that I would like to see with fresh new ideas and perspectives include: continued public safety improvements for both fire and police. Equipment, personnel, training, proper application of laws, codes and procedures will continue to put Magee in a better view with respect to protection statistics, and insurance ratings. This in turn, will attract new businesses and continued growth because of our commitment to a higher set of standards. I would like to see our commitment to improvement and an increase of family parks. I and others would like to see a greater number of outside family settings other than the organized sports. The recent additions of the walking track at the old YMCA property and construction of the splash pad are good examples. Settings that include picnic tables, playground equipment or other inclusive family activities would be nice additions to see. I would encourage the business and church communities to join in with the City in providing more opportunities for our youth. Skating rinks, bowling allies, arcades, and gymnasiums, were once popular and safe places that would provide our youth with weekend social/activity settings. Maybe it’s time for fresh new ideas or approaches to come to the fore front regarding new beginnings, settings, or trends for our youth.

If elected, I will represent this City in a most professional, honorable, positive and responsible way, as others have before me. I will continue the trend of fiscal responsibility, integrity as I work with the Mayor, and Board members toward this goal. As I participate in conducting the legislative business of the City, I will seek and follow the Lord’s guidance in all of my decisions. I am a candidate for Alderman At Large, and I ask for your vote.

Thank You,
Gary Kevin Meadows
