Flu is spreading in Mississippi and most southern states. Peak flu season is just getting under way, though, and we can expect illnesses to increase across the state in the coming weeks. Nationally, the greatest rates of hospitalization due to flu are now among those 65 and over, and children 4 years of age and younger. As of November 30, six U.S. children have died from flu-related causes this season according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There’s still time get a flu vaccination before flu becomes an even greater risk. Remember, it can take up to two weeks for a flu vaccination to reach its full effectiveness. |
