Flora Beatrice Canoy Kennedy, age 101, passed away on September 03, 2025 at the MS Care Center of Raleigh, MS, where she resided since March, 2023. Visitation will be 9:00am, September 06, 2025 at Kennedy Springs Baptist Church, Simpson County, with her “homegoing celebration” immediately following at 11:00am. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. Our family invites you to join us in celebrating her love of God in Christ and His living in and through her life.
Our mom was born August 21, 1924 in Magee, Mississippi to Timothy Franklin and Lola Bishop Canoy of Magee. She was the oldest of nine. She married Colon E. Kennedy, who preceded her in death after 68 years of marriage. Mom was so thankful for her relationship with her Lord Jesus and wanted to share her faith with everyone. Growing up on a farm she learned a hard work ethic. From the fields to her flowers and many friends, she found life rewarding. She was an excellent cook and her biscuits could entice one unnamed man to eat 6 at one setting.
Mom loved her family and prayed for each by name.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Son-in-law, Billy Ray Smith, two sisters; Sadie Thornton and Jean Hopkins, and brothers Cody Canoy, Dick Canoy and Leon Canoy.
Survivors include one daughter; Jeanette Smith of Raleigh, MS. Two sons; Jeff Kennedy (Jinda) of Raleigh, MS and Ricky Kennedy (Sandra) of Summit, MS. She was also known as “Mamaw” or “IB” to eight grandchildren; Todd Smith (Paula), Anthony Smith (Christy) and Mark Smith all of Raleigh, MS. Isaac Kennedy (Alexa) of Florence, MS, J.T. Kennedy (Triston) of Sumrall, MS, Lyle Kennedy of Lucedale, MS, Jason Kennedy of Ocean Springs, MS and Angel Arnold (Shane) of Meadville, MS along with 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister; Joanna Barnes of Magee, MS and one brother; Travis Canoy (Patsy) of Mendenhall.
Our family is deeply grateful for the staff of MS Care Center of Raleigh for their skills and loving care of our mom these last few years.
To God be the glory, great things he has done.
