HappyFourthofJulyAs the 4th of July quickly approaches, many of us begin to think about barbecues, parades, block parties, and obviously, fireworks!

Unfortunately, along with these beautiful displays comes the danger. If not used properly, fireworks can be dangerous especially when fire conditions are extreme. As severe drought continues to plague several regions nationwide increasing the threat of wildfires, it is important to celebrate the 4th of July in the safest way possible.

  • Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap.
  • Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
  • Avoid buying fireworks that are packaged in brown paper because this is often a sign that the fireworks were made for professional displays and that they could pose a danger to consumers.
  • Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees – hot enough to melt some metals.
