Famine in the Land
Before the rains came, we endured dry dusty conditions, watched our lawns turn brown, farmers watched and worried about fall grazing and we began to pray for rain. When the rain came, we all felt a sigh of relief and joy that things would be better.
The scriptures tell of many instances of the people suffering famine, drought, and hunger.
We are suffering a drought in our land that is more harmful than the most severe drought that our nation has ever endured.
“Behold the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the Lord. The people will stagger from sea to sea. And from north even to the east; They will go to and fro seek the word of the Lord, But they will not find it.” (Amos 8: 11-12.)
I know how refreshing rain is to dry land, but God’s word is even more refreshing to a dry soul!! God’s word tells us repeatedly that He will not use a stiff-necked, stubborn people! When the rains come, the grounds are softened and farmers and gardeners till and plant, knowing a great harvest is coming! Read and study God’s word and let it soften our hearts! Attend worship and Bible study regularly with a lot of saved sinners trying to do good things for God! Be wary of becoming dry and dusty!
