Alred, 39, who is housed at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI), was captured about 12:45 p.m. today without incident in the vicinity of Wendell Road off Mississippi Highway 42 in Perry County.

Alred, assigned to the prison’s Greene County work crew, went missing just before 2 p.m. Tuesday while in the Richton area.

He is serving a total of nine years for burglary larceny/of an unoccupied dwelling in Panola County, embezzlement in Tate County, and residential burglary in Tallahatchie County. He faces an escape charge that carries an additional five years in prison upon conviction.

“I commend everyone involved in this manhunt,” Commissioner Pelicia E. Hall said. “We greatly appreciate the help we received on the local, county, state, and federal levels from other law enforcement officers and the public. This capture has ended the way we hope all escapes would end. We are very thankful that no one was hurt.”

The MDOC has an active ongoing investigation of the escape.
