Dwight Morgan Smith, 86 of Mendenhall, Mississippi passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, Mississippi. He was born Saturday, February 27, 1937 in Poplarville, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 9:00am until 11:00am at Goodwater Baptist Church, 1313 Goodwater Rd NW, Magee, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00am also at Goodwater Baptist Church in Magee, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Goodwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Bro. Jason Webb will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Mr. Dwight was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed bowling, and even participated in a bowling league. He was not afraid of hard work, spending his time working in Ingalls Shipyard. He was a dedicated member of Goodwater Baptist Church. He enjoyed using his tractor, bush hogging, and working in his yard and garden. He was a man loved by many and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Diane Polk Smith; daughter, Sheila Smith Phillips; father, Edgar Thornhill Smith; mother, Laverna Dedeaux Smith; brothers, Dale Smith and Wilmon Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Wesley Ray Smith, Sr. and Dwight Daniel Smith; grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Jr. (Rachel), David Smith (Brittany), Jeremy Smith (Jessica) and Tabitha Smith (Chad); brother, David Smith; and many great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Smith Jr., David Smith, Lee Maddox, Curtis Boyte, Matthew Booth, and Robert Stubbs.
