Superintendent of Education Greg Paes Announces the Selection of District Parent of the Year
Gayle Magee, parent of three Magee High School students, was selected as the District Parent of the Year based on her interview with the District’s selection committee. The committee, comprised of School Board President Doris Perkins, former Parent of the Year Fountaine McNair, and District Administrator Dr. Tom Duncan, made the decision after interviewing the representatives from each school in the county. In her closing remarks to the committee, Gayle Magee stated: “As parents, we have to realize it is not the school’s job to raise our children, it is their job to teach our children, and parents must raise their own children.” She went on to say parents need to be more involved with the school and the community also needs to be involved so every aspect is intertwined. Her goal at Magee High is to make the teachers happy so they can do their job and “sow seeds of light”.
Gayle will now compete for the Statewide Parent of the Year award, representing the best of the Simpson County School District. Superintendent Greg Paes, in making the announcement, stated: “Simpson County School District is honored to have such a wonderful employee and parent working in our schools. You won’t find a more committed person in our district, working with the teachers and staff. Gayle Magee truly represents what it means to be a Parent of the Year.”
The selection committee was very impressed by all the representatives from each school. The Parent of the Year representatives from each school site are:
- Stacy Chapin, representing Magee Elementary and Magee Middle School
- Leslie Craft, representing Mendenhall Elementary
- Sarah Bush, representing Mendenhall Junior High
